Wetland near the village of Georgioupoulis where you can see water birds and waders. It also has a great Kır kırlangıcı roost.
Lake Almyros is one of the most important wetlands of western Crete. In the lake you can find many aquatic birds. The lake is not only worth a visit for waterfowl. In Georgioupoulis I found the largest Kır kırlangıcı roost I have seen so far! Among the other birds you can encounter are Yeşilbacak, Orman düdükçünü, Su çulluğu, Dere düdükçünü, Yeşil düdükçün, Yalıçapkını, Ak Karınlı Ebabil, Küçük ak balýkçýl, Gümüş martı, Saka, İtalyan Serçesi and Kamış Bülbülü.
You can reach the lake from the town when following the road "Palea EO Chanion Rethimnou". The Kır kırlangıcı roost is at the opposite position of the town.
