The Zuckerteiche (sugar ponds), located in the north of the town Prenzlau, used to be sewage ponds of a former sugar factory.
The reed beds of the ponds of Zuckerteiche Prenzlau are important for breeding birds such as Kındıra kamışçını, Bataklık Kamışçını and Bıyıklı baştankara. A good number of waders rest here during their spring and autumn migration.
Follow the B109 to Pasewalk, turn into Triftraße in the direction of "Baubedarf GmbH". Behind "Baubedarf GmbH", follow the dirt road to the left and park your car behind the "Baudarf GmbH" before you cross the railway track. Follow the path on foot. After about 600m you reach a hunting stand from where you have a view of the area without using the hunting stand. Birders should be very careful and not enter the area to protect the birdlife.
