Description

Polder Kockrowsberg hosts a large variety of birds that live in open grassland as well as wetland and reed bed habitats. That is why this part of the Spreewald is great for reed-breeding birds, waders, herons and storks that find food in the wet meadows and the reed collars. This includes bird species such as Çütre , Bıyıklı baştankara , Kızkuşu , Büyük ak balýkçýl , Saz delicesi , Bataklık Kamışçını , Bataklık kirazkuşu , Büyük kamışçın , Mavigerdan , Balık kartalı , Turna , Karabağ martı , Ağaç serçesi and plenty more.

Access

Polder Kockrowsberg is located in the Spreewald, south of Berlin. The area is best accessed via Lübben and the Reha-Zentrum Lübben, where you can find a parking lot. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking lot . Please note, however, that parts of the parking lot are "private" by the Reha clinic. I recommend parking at the far end of the parking lot on the gravel area.

From the parking, you can take a nice path through some avenue trees along some agricultural fields and water channels, before finally coming to the main point of interest: the wetland part!

IMPORTANT NOTE: A circular path is possible (9.5 km), but since most of the interesting bird life is in the wetland reed parts, I suggest you return the same way (9 km) after getting to the observation tower (which is currently under re-construction as of May 2024)!

While not strictly necessary, a spotting scope is highly recommended.
