More than 230 bird species have been recorded in these former gravel pits that have been transformed into a nature reserve of 26 hectares.
The former gravel mining area Plessenteich has been transformed into a bird sanctuary. Shallow water zones and islands have been created. The lake landscape serves more than 230 bird species as a breeding and resting place. From the observation tower and several other viewpoints you have good views on the area. The Plessenteich is good for birding at any time of the year. Regular breeding birds are Büyük kamışçın, Karabağ martı, Sumru, Küçük halkalı cılıbıt and Kızkuşu. Also Yalıçapkını, Sarı kirazkuşu, Kızıl Çaylak and Akdeniz Martısı are often seen. Annually recurring migrating birds include Çamurcun, Macar ördeği, Angit, Büyük ak balýkçýl, Dere düdükçünü, Döşüşkenkuş, Yeşilbacak and Su çulluğu.
Plessenteich is located 8 km southeast of the city of Ulm and directly north of the village of Werzlen. No parking lot signposted, you can park along the beginning of the street "Am Plessenteich" (89231 Neu-Ulm). Click on the P in the map to get directions.
