Description

Grüner Bogen is a special biotope project that has been maintained since 2004 on the former military area of the Heiterblick barracks, where the Leipzig combat groups also trained during the GDR era. Following the end of its military use after reunification, rare animal species such as moor frogs, crested newts, dragonflies and bird species found an ideal habitat in the 35-hectare site with open meadows, woodland and ponds. [Excerpt from the Wikipedia article, 10.06.2024]

Species that can be observed in the area are: Boyunçeviren, Sarıasma, Küçük halkalı cılıbıt, Su çulluğu, Kızıl Çaylak, Uzunkuyruklu baştankara, Akgerdanlı ötleğen, Yalıçapkını, Yeşil Ağaçkakan, Karabağlı ötleğen, Orman alaca ağaçkakanı, İbibik, Sığırcık, Çıvgın, Bülbül, Kızılsırtlı örümcekkuşu, Büyük kamışçın and many more. In addition to many bird species, with a bit of luck you can also observe Przewalski's horses.

Important: The site is fenced off and it is not possible to enter. Instead, a circular path leads around the site and you have great opportunities to look inside with binoculars and a spotting scope. The fact that there is little disturbance in the area (apart from domestic cats) means that it is developing very well, along with the species in it.
