Description
The Griesheimer Schleuse (locks) are located between Griesheim on the northern shore of the river Main and the settlement Goldstein on the southern in Schwanheim. The shore areas and the lock island around the barrage are a protected bird sanctuary. You can see both sides very well from the bridge. Sometimes rarer species also become unusually trusting, e.g. Karabatak, because that is where seagulls and ducks are fed. It is particularly worthwhile if you want to take a closer look at seagulls. At least eight species have already been recorded in the area. Spotting scope is highly recommended, the observation distances are often very large. Among the birds you can encounter are Karabatak, Gümüş martı, Kulaklı batağan, Büyük tarakdiş, Sütlabi, Büyük Karasırtlı Martı, Karasırtlı Martı, Gümüş martı, Akdeniz Martısı, Elmabaş patka, Tepeli patka, orman ördeği and Kadife ördek.
