Description
Gedenkstätte Stresow is a little memorial of World War II located in the Wendland in midst of a lot of nature. Right next to the memorial is a small lake, where you can often see Sütlabi, Büyük tarakdiş and several species of duck in Winter.
A few hundred meters futher there is an observation tower with a nice view over the partially flooded meadows and small bodies of water. In winter they are getting used as a wintering and migration place for thousands of ducks and geese such as Kilkuyruk, Altıngöz, Fiyu, Boz ördek, Çamurcun, Çıkrıkçın, Kaşıkgaga, Elmabaş patka, Tepeli patka, Suna, Akyanaklý kaz, Sakarca, Tarla kazi and Ötücü kuğu. If you are lucky than you can spot a Büyük örümcekkuşu in the bushes.
During migration times many waders visit the area. You can observe Kızkuşu, Karakarınlı kumkuşu, Halkalı cılıbıt, Küçük halkalı cılıbıt, Kervançulluğu, Çamurçulluğu, Dere düdükçünü, Su çulluğu, Orman düdükçünü, Yeşil düdükçün, Kara kızılbacak, Kızılbacak, Yeşilbacak and sometimes Döşüşkenkuş. On the water bodies you can sometimes spot grebes such as Kızılboyunlu batağan or Küçük batağan or see a Yalıçapkını.
For a better look there is a route on the dike through the meadows so you can see the whole area from different sides. In the summer there are many swallows and Turna , herons and Leylek. Gri balýkçýl and Büyük ak balýkçýl are not uncommon, with a bit of luck you even can see a pair of Kara leylek.
From the power poles, the bushes and out of the reed you can hear the songs of Bataklık kirazkuşu, Tarla kirazkuşu, Sarı kirazkuşu, Akgerdanlı ötleğen, Kındıra kamışçını, Saz Kamışçını, Büyük kamışçın, Çayır taşkuşu, Taşkuşu, Tarlakuşu and see for example Kızılsırtlı örümcekkuşu or Sarý kuyruksallayan.
Over the whole year you can spot many different birds of prey. From the observation tower you can see Saz delicesi flying over the reed beds, in the whole area Şahin, Kızıl Çaylak and Kerkenez are not uncommon. On very good days you can even see a Gök doðan or Arı Şahini. Also often seen are Kara çaylak, Gökçe delice and Balık kartalı and sometimes more down by the river Aland in the trees sit one or two Akkuyruklu kartal.

Access
Feuchtwiesen Gedenkstätte Stresow is located east of the villages of Kapern and Gummern and north of the village of Aulosen. There are two roads to the memorial Stresow. One is a dirt road from Kapern, safer is the normal road from Aulosen. On the memorial is a parking space, where you can park your car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there it is better to walk or to ride a bike. You can also easily connect the visit with a bike tour through the beautiful landscape of Wendland.
