Especially during spring and autumn migration the Elbe river serves as a resting place for a lot of water birds. The Fähranleger Glücksstadt is a ferry terminal that reaches out into the river a bit. This creates a protected area for the birds, with many gathering around it. Among the birds you can encounter are Poyrazkuşu, Küçük gümüþ martý, Fiyu, Akyanaklý kaz, Kuzey Gümüş Martı and Karasırtlı Martı.
