Bird observation tower that gives a great view on the big lake Chiemsee and the sandbanks in the Achendelta, where many waders and water birds can be observed.
With an area of almost 80km², the Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria's borders. Around 340 bird species have been registered around the Chiemsee. 145 different bird species breed regularly in the area. At Grabenstätt the river Tiroler Ache flows in the Chiemsee after 79 km and creates a unique inland delta. To the east of this Achendelta is the Hirschauer Bucht, a bay in the Chiemsee. In the Hirschauer Bucht the observation tower offers a wonderful view of the Chiemsee and the sandbanks in the Achendelta, where many waders and water birds can be observed. The shore zones of the Achendeltas are an important retreat for the birds in the Chiemsee. A great place to observe the birds without disturbing them. During migration you can see great groups of waders here, for example up to 100 Döşüşkenkuş on the passage, but also Orman düdükçünü, Kara kızılbacak, Yeşilbacak, Karakarınlı kumkuşu and Kervançulluğu. Also Macar ördeği and many other ducks and geese. Other birds that are seen regularly are Yalıçapkını, Dağ kuyruksallayanı, Kayın Baştankarası, Bataklık kirazkuşu, Saz delicesi and Akkuyruklu kartal.
On the Grabenstätt-Chieming road, take the junction to Hirschauer Bucht. You can park near the restaurant Wirtshaus zur Hirschauer Bucht. Click on the P in the map to get directions. In the observation tower there are bird information boards.
