Description

With 511 meters of elevation, Birkenkopf (Birch Head) is one of the highest points in Stuttgart offering a great view over the city and sky and, thus, makes it a good place for visible migration and raptor watching. After the World War II 15,000,000 cubic metres of debris from buildings ruined during the war, were deposited on top of Birkenkopf, making it rise 40 meters. This makes this hill not only a beautiful viewpoint but also a memorial to the destructive power of wars.

The slopes of the hill and the neighbouring Bürgerwald are mostly decidious mature forest with multiple footpaths throughout: wandering through the forerst, you might encounter different woodpeckers (Ortanca Ağaçkakan, Orman alaca ağaçkakanı, Yeşil Ağaçkakan and even Kara ağaçkakan), Alakarga, Şahin, Bahçe Tırmaşıkkuşu, Öter ardıç, and various smaller passerines (Kocabaş, Çalıkuşu, Mavi Baştankara, Büyük baþtankara, etc.)
