The old port of Cayenne is a great place for birding. The old jetty allows the observation of numerous waders.
The Vieux Port has a footbridge (an old jetty) around which a mangrove has developed. At low tide (see the link to the tides table below) it is possible to observe numerous shorebirds as well as seabirds and other birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Roseate Spoonbill, Great Egret, Scarlet Ibis, Great Frigatebird, Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Osprey, Semipalmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, Short-billed Dowitcher, Willet, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Grey-cowled Wood-Rail, Black Skimmer, Peregrine Falcon, Laughing Gull, Snowy Egret, Tricolored Heron, Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Glossy Ibis, Black-headed Gull, Grey-hooded Gull, Black-necked Stilt, American Flamingo, Cocoi Heron, Least Tern and Brown-chested Martin..

In Cayenne follow the signs to the old port (Vieux Port). It is possible to park in the area itself, by car or on two wheels.
