Description

Pointe de Chassiron is located at the end of the island of Oléron, and probably the most interesting place for the observation of pelagic birds (= seawatch), like Sümsükkuþu, yaygın alk or even Balear Yelkovanı.

The best time to observe seabirds, like any bird for that matter, is from dawn until noon. The only really interesting period for the seawatch is fall. You will then be able to observe a very large diversity of open sea birds, such as: Boz kaz, Yosun kazi, Pufla, Kara ördek, Tarakdiş, Kulaklı batağan, Bahri, Büyük Korsanmartı, yaygın alk, Usturagaga, çatal kuyruklu martı, Karabağ martı, Küçük martı, Akdeniz Martısı, Küçük gümüþ martý, Kuzey Gümüş Martı, Gümüş martı, Karasırtlı Martı, Büyük Karasırtlı Martı, Küçük sumru, Karagagalı Sumru, Sumru, Kýzýlgerdanlý dalgýç, Buz Dalgýcý, Fýrtýnakýrlangýcý, Balear Yelkovanı, Sümsükkuþu and finally Tepeli Karabatak.

During migration, it is also possible to observe a large number of passerines and Anatidae.

NB: a Kara Sığırcık has been nesting for several years under the tiles of the most advanced house with Sığırcık.

Access

It is possible to park in the parking lot at the tip. You can visit the site on foot. You can also visit it by bike but it will be useless because the principle is to remain static behind your telescope.
