Description
Borreby Mose is a large area with bog and reedbeds. Around the bog are extensive meadows used for grazing. Despite attempts to drain and cultivate, today the site is protected under Natura 2000 and serves as a vital refuge for birds. The reedbeds host breeding Balaban, Saz delicesi, Bıyıklı baştankara, Kındıra kamışçını, Saz Kamışçını and occasionally rarities like Bataklık Kamışçını and Büyük kamışçın. The wet meadows, shallow pools and muddy edges attract many waders and meadow-birds like Çamurçulluğu, Döşüşkenkuş, Kızkuşu, Kızılbacak, Poyrazkuşu, Halkalı cılıbıt, and Kılıçgaga.
During migration thousands of geese roost in the area, joined by ducks like Kilkuyruk, Kaşıkgaga, Çamurcun and Tepeli patka. Winter brings Sütlabi, Altıngöz, and Gökçe delice. A regular resident is Akkuyruklu kartal. Less common birds that visit Borreby Mose include Hazar sumrusu and Deniz düdükçünü. Every year rarities turn up in the area, especially during migration. For example Çizgili Kumkuşu and Kara leylek have been observed.
