Boardwalk that meanders through shadowy mangroves, towering eucalypts, cool melaleucas and dense vine thickets.
Cape Hillsborough National Park is a great spot for birding. More than 150 species of birds have been recorded in the area. The Diversity boardwalk is a 2,5 km walk to explore an easy accessible part of the park. The trail is partially boardwalk and the remainder is gravel path. You walk through the cool shaded melaleucas, tall eucalypts and vine thickets of coastal mangrove with opportunities to learn about how these thriving plant communities have been shaped over time and their importance to the Yuibera people. Birds are all over the place, but not always easy to see. Best to arrive early, when the birds are most active. Bird activity decreases sharply later in the day.
The Diversity boardwalk is in Cape Hillsborough National Park, 50km north-west of Mackay, on the Central Queensland coast. From Mackay travel north on the Bruce Highway for 20 km and turn right onto Seaforth Road.Travel a further 20km and turn right onto Cape Hillsborough Road. The track starts on the right-hand side of Cape Hillsborough Road, about 1km from the park entrance. Access is suitable for conventional vehicles. Click on the P in the map for directions.
