Looe is a fishing port on the south coast of Cornwall, the town is divided by the Looe River.
The Looe River (running north to south), is the most easterly estuary on the south Cornwall coast, the estuary is quite narrow for it's full length and at low tide has large areas of mud/silt with some good saltmarsh.
There is a large 24 hour pay and display car park at the Millpool, just off the West Looe to Polperro road. Park here to check out the middle section of the estuary, by walking the edge of carpark for it's full length. Be sure to check the groups of gulls for rarities that can often be found here, just to the North of here is a heronry in Trenant Woods. After checking this area exit car park and head south for Hannafore Point, keeping to the west side of the river, in a short distance on this road it opens up to sea views, in bad weather you can sit in car, but it also has numerous paths further west, unfortunately this road is a dead end, whilst here check the sea for Divers/Grebes/Sea Ducks that can often be found, especially during bad weather, during stronger winds from the South West Pelagic species can come within range. Beware during SUMMER MONTHS Looe gets extremely busy.
