This is an area of coastal marsh protected by a seawall, with pools and a hide. It's a nature reserve managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.
Using the seawall, one can walk from Tollesbury Marina with the marsh on one side and the tidal Woodrolfe Creek on the other. It's an example of Essex coastal marshes, a bleakly beautiful border area between land and sea. There are flocks of winter prutgås and skärfläcka , as well as other waterfowl and waders.
If travelling by car, parking is available off Woodrolfe Road, about 10 minutes walk from the Wick; a fee may be due, depending upon duration and time of parking. There may be limited on street parking, but there are restrictions.
Bus 91 from Kelvedon, near the railway station, and bus 95 from Maldon, run to Tollesbury, from thence a half hour walk to the Wick. Neither service is frequent.
The circular walk route is over 9 kilometres. There no refreshments or toilets at the Wick, these are available in Tollesbury and at the car park. Take water, particularly in the summer. The seawall is exposed, with no shelter from the wind - dress appropriately. The path may be muddy.
