Mansands (sometimes spelt Man Sands) is in South Devon due South of Brixham Harbour and Berry Head.
Mansands, managed by the National Trust, has changed a lot in recent years. The sea defences at the back of the shingle beach, now long removed, once put in place to protect pasture, has allowed the sea to encroach further inland, forming an excellent wetland with standing water and reedbeds. The bird hide, once a temporary simple 'blind' has been removed and replaced with a permanent hide. In 2019 a causeway was built across the reserve dividing it in two. Some birds you can expect to see are cettisångare, rörsångare, vigg, snatterand, the area has attracted rarities such as a male blåvingad årta in 2020. BE SURE to check for birds offshore along beach.
Take the A 3022 from Paignton, fork Right onto A379 (Kennels Road). On reaching Hillhead fork Left onto B3205, after approximately half a mile turn Left onto minor road (Broad Road) signed Woodhuish. Then take another Left turn signed Woodhuish, follow signs to Woodhuish/Mansands. The National Trust car park is on the Left. BE AWARE some of these roads are VERY NARROW. The circular walking route as shown on the map below is about 3 km long.
