Beskrivning
Stornäsets Nature Reserve offers great opportunities to see birds. Both in spring and autumn, lots of birds are can be seen here. The 149 hectare big reserve has a large contiguous deciduous forest area that is surrounded by meadows and pastures. The county's largest claimed seafront meadow and its connecting species-rich shallow seabeds attract thousands of birds, especially during migration. Several hides are built to allow you to watch birds without disturbing them.
Stornäset is a very important resting place for migratory birds. The shallow beaches, sand reefs and open meadows provide rest and food to the long-distance migratory birds. Here, waders and ducks thrive, but many passerines and birds of prey also pass by Stornäset. Most birds stop only for a short time, before moving on on their way to or from northern Sweden, Finland or Russia.
Among the water birds that like to stay here are, for example stjärtand, Skedand, skäggdopping, and sångsvan. Examples from the many waders are strandskata, kustpipare, ljungpipare, brushane, roskarl, rödbena, kärrsnäppa, mosnäppa and svartsnäppa.
snösparv, rosenfink, blåhake and gulärla are examples of passerines that you can see and birds of prey such as fjällvråk and blå kärrhök. Rare guests include spovsnäppa, smalnäbbad simsnäppa, brednäbbad simsnäppa and dubbelbeckasin.
