At Kungsbro 212 Bird species have been recorded. Kungsbro is a nature reserve next to the lake of Roxen. At the lake 296 bird species have been recorded. During winter large amounts (hundreds if not thousands) of vigg, gräsand, and knipa. Among these salskrake, storskrake, knölsvan, skäggdopping, havstrut, sothöna, sångsvan, bläsand, and snatterand. In mild winters you can observe hundreds of grågås, and kanadagås. Sometimes stare, bläsgås, and tofsvipa also winter in the area. Birds of prey like ormvråk, fjällvråk, tornfalk, havsörn, and blå kärrhök can also be seen in the area. And Varfågel.
During spring large amounts of geese stay in the hundreds on the fields and meadows. In some years tofsvipa, tajgasädgås, and sånglärka are found here. Large amounts dabbling ducks, can be found some of whom breed. Many wading birds like rödspov, storspov, småspov, strandskata, rödbena, grönbena, and brushane use the coastal meadows as feeding grounds. From the observation tower you get a good view of the lake. On the lake you can see hundreds of fisktärna, Gråtrut and fiskmås. Smaller amounts of skräntärna, svarttärna, silltrut and dvärgmås can be found from May-September.
Kungsbro has a small colony of skrattmås. Waders like tofsvipa, strandskata, rödbena, and enkelbeckasin. Other breeding birds are: snatterand, grågås, sothöna, Kricka, and skäggdopping. Among passerine birds rörsångare, sävsångare, Sävsparv, gulärla and many more breed.
During autumn ängspiplärka, snösparv, vinterhämpling, rödstrupig piplärka, ringduva use the fields and coastal meadows as resting ground. Calidris-waders often use the coastal meadows when the water levels at Roxen are low. The nature reserve is just outside the towns of Berg and Ljungsbro. The area is close to Linköping. There is a parking spot at the birdwatching tower and south of the river Motala Ström at Sjöliden parking spaces can be found. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.
