The best park in Madrid. The old landfill is now a reforested area with loads of wild birds.
Parque Forestal Valdebebas - Felipe IV consists of a young forest of native vegetation, though an area to the south does have older trees. Most of the area is dominated by stone pines, which hold all of the common birds of the area. The park has several streams and and two small lakes. These attract birds such as forsärla, pungmes, vattenrall (uncommon), kungsfiskare and sometimes rostand. Some other ducks, like snatterand, might occasionally show up. Waders, such as skogssnäppa can also appear. There have been records of tjockfot. During winter, the top part of the park is very good for rödvingetrast, with björktrast also being present. Some raptors like grågam might fly over, but this isn't a good spot for them. minervauggla is present, however, the park is closed at night, making other owl species sightings scarce. Trana might ocassionally fly over during winter.
You can access the park from the Valdebebas urbanisation. There are multiple entrances.
Beware that some areas of the park might be crowded during the weekends, and unleashed dogs might scare birds. Mammals, such as the Grenada Hare or sometimes even Red Fox (very rare), are also present here.
