Probably the only colony of lunnefågel, sillgrissla and tordmule, you can watch from land in Norland and Lofoten.
The Nykvåg - Nykan Nature Reserve covers an area of 356 hectares of which 269 hectares is sea. The land area includes the west side of the island of Langøya and three larger islands (Fuglenyken, Måsnyken, and Spjøten) as well as several smaller islands. It has been designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supports important breeding populations of birds.
In the reserve you will find auk nesting colonies very close to the mainland. You can observe lunnefågel, sillgrissla and tordmule on the small rocky islands. Here you can find some of the most important birding sites in the whole larger area of Norland.
The Nykvåg - Nykan Nature Reserve is located on the west coast of the large island of Langøya and lies between the villages of Sandvika and Nykvåg. You can park somewhere in or around Nykvåg and then walk to the birdwatching cliff.
Even though the the rocks are pretty close to the shoreline. It can still be challeging to get to a good observation spot, but it is well worth the effort. Be sure to watch out for the beginning of the nature reserve and to respect its regulations. For more information see the link below.
