The Westerstrand is an extremely wide beach on the western tip of Schiermonnikoog. You can wander around here endlessly and it is a good place to find sandpipers and gulls. But with the exception of the surf, you often have to scan the sand plain for a while to find them. Don't forget to check the beach entrances, where various birds can often be found. Birds you may encounter in the Westerstrand area include större strandpipare, kustpipare, strandskata, sandlöpare, kärrsnäppa, småsnäppa, Kentsk tärna, småtärna, havstrut, silltrut, Gråtrut, Pilgrimsfalk, berglärka and snösparv.

Nederlands: Het Westerstrand is een enorm breed strand op de westelijke punt van Schiermonnikoog. Je kunt hier eindeloos ronddwalen en het is een goede plek voor strandlopers en meeuwen. Maar met uitzondering van de branding moet vaak wel flink speuren om ze te vinden. Check ook de strandopgangen, waar ook vaak diverse vogels te vinden zijn. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer större strandpipare, kustpipare, strandskata, sandlöpare, kärrsnäppa, småsnäppa, Kentsk tärna, småtärna, havstrut, silltrut, Gråtrut en Pilgrimsfalk. In de winter heb je hier een goede kans op berglärka en snösparv.

The Westerstrand is located 2 km west of the village of Schiermonnikoog. You can walk or cycle there from the village. There is a bicycle parking at the beach entrance. You can freely cross and explore the beach, the circular walk indicated on the map is only a suggestion and is approximately 7 km.
