Water from the dunes runs towards the south point of Texel. Het Grote Vlak consists of a few lakes in this water course.

Beskrivning

Het Grote Vlak often holds a lot of ducks ( Skedand , snatterand , stjärtand , gravand , bläsand and in spring årta ), gulls and grebes. Sometimes waders, like rödspov , are abundant and few songbirds, like vattenpiplärka and svarthakad buskskvätta (sometimes even blåhake ), can be found. The area is also good for finding skogsduva , stenskvätta and in winter fjällvråk .

Het Grote Vlak is easily accessible from the village of Den Hoorn towards the beach. You can park on the roadside, but try to give way to cyclists on the parallel cycle path.
