Beskrivning
Jardín Botánico Vallarta is located near Puerto Vallarta in the Sierra Madre. The collections showcase plants of the tropical dry forest biome, native to the region around Puerto Vallarta, as well as exotics from around the world. The gardens feature hiking trails both through the native forest and the manicured garden grounds and to the Horcones river. The gardens attract a wide variety of year-round Mexican bird species and migratory visitors and are great for birding in early morning or late afternoon.
Seasonally common birds here include West Mexican Chachalaca, Golden-cheeked Woodpecker, Russet-crowned Motmot, San Blas Jay, Green Jay, Yellow-winged Cacique, Citreoline Trogon, Elegant Trogon, Masked Tityra, and many more. Military Macaw have been documented occupying nest boxes strategically placed on natural pines at the highest extremities of the property.
Many different species of hummingbirds can be seen at the bird feeders and in the gardens. For example Plain-capped Starthroat, Violet-crowned Hummingbird, Broad-billed Hummingbird, Mexican Hermit, Golden-crowned Emerald, Berylline Hummingbird, Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird and Cinnamon Hummingbird.
