Andasibe Mantadia National Park is roughly a 3 to 5 hour drive from Madagascar's capital, Antananarivo, via the main RN2 highway. A local guide is required to enter the national park and is essential for spotting wildlife. A guide can be arranged at the entrance or through tour operators. Entry fees vary depending on the section of the park and the type of tour.
As a montane rainforest, Andasibe is often cool and humid, with frequent rain, even during the "dry" season. Waterproof gear is recommended. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to October. During this period, trail conditions are best and wildlife is more active, including lemurs, birds and other endemic species. However, the period from November to April can also be interesting if you're keen on birdwatching or want to explore greener nature, although rain is more frequent. Many tour operators offer multi-day packages that combine a visit to Andasibe with other destinations in Madagascar.
