The Varenna is a stream in the city of Genoa. The third longest watercourse after the streams of Bisagno and Polcevera. The stretch of the Varenna river that reaches from the mouth to the motorway bridge allows you to observe various species of birds in transit during the migratory period. Being located in front of the airport it is possible with good binoculars to observe the species that stop in that area or in the sea. The diversity of environments allows both small passerines and aquatic birds a safe place to stop. Unfortunately, since it is very easy to access the river, many people with dogs or swimmers enter the waterway during the summer.

Italiano: Il Varenna è un torrente, che attraversa l'omonima valle. E' per lunghezza il terzo corso d'acqua della città di Genova, dopo Bisagno e Polcevera. Durante la migrazione il tratto di fiume che dalla foce giunge fino al ponte dell'autostrada consente di osservare durante il periodo migratorio diverse specie di uccelli in transito. Essendo collocato davanti all'Aereoporto è possibile con un buon binocolo osservare anche le specie che vanno a sostare in quella zona o nel mare. La diversità di ambienti permette sia a piccoli passeriformi che a uccelli acquatici un luogo sicuro in cui sostare. Purtroppo essendo molto agevole accedere al fiume, molte persone con cani o bagnanti si addentrano nel corso d'acqua durante la bella stagione.

The river is easily reachable as it is in the city center of Genoa, either by parking in Multedo in the beach area or by crossing the Giacomo Bruzzone Bridge to reach the second car park. Click on a P in the map for directions.
