Beskrivning
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see större flamingo, several species of ducks, sothöna, tofsvipa, different species of herons, brun kärrhök, kungsfiskare, pungmes and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as gluttsnäppa and styltlöpare, as well as migratory ducks like årta and vitögd dykand. The site is one of the last places where marmorand breeds in Italy. Re-introduced västlig purpurhöna can also be seen.
