Beskrivning
Birding at Ljóskastarahúsið is usually rewarding in one way or another. During migration, thousands of seabirds, like tretåig mås, sillgrissla, tordmule, stormfågel and lunnefågel pass the westernmost point on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. In summer, birds like havssula and stormfågel can be seen feeding, and if you're lucky, a mindre lira or a grålira might pass. In the wintertime, the sea hosts alfågel, toppskarv and you might be able to find a alkekung.
Visit Ljóskastarahúsið when the wind is strong, preferably towards land and the Reykjavík bay. Not many Icelandic birders spend time seawatching, so chances are high that you'll be the one yelling "albatross!". Remember to check the ponds and shoreline on your way to and from.
