This viewpoint over an empty lake is well known for observing nattskärra and wild wolves..
Viewpoint above the Bergener See. The dry lake originated from lignite extraction, typical for the region. After a severe landslide, the lake lost a lot of water and was abondoned for the next years, until now. There is even a visible half-way sunken red truck in the lake, where the driver had to be rescued by helicopter after the landslide. As bad as this landslide was, it created a special open habitat. The place is known as the best spot for watching wild wolves. For birding, this landscape provides habitat for nattskärra, törnskata, blåhake and common crane. At dusk, multiple nattskärra can fly above your head.
The best it to drive with a bike or car over the road coming from the south. The road is in very bad shape, but still suitable for driving with a normal car. As the whole surrounding is high-risk-area for landslides, you are not allowed to leave the path. You might want to explore the way northwards, but it the path is closed slightly north of the viewpoint.
