Beskrivning
The Nienwohlder Moor is a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. The 398 hectare nature reserve lies northeast of Hamburg between the villages of Nienwohld, Nahe,Itzstedt and Sülfeld. It protects a drained and mostly gated high bog area, which is the largest and best preserved bog remnant in Schleswig-Holstein. It is now an open bog with numerous water-filled peat engravings surrounded by a bog forest in the area of former industrial use. The nature reserve is also an important habitat for birds. There are various waders such as storspov and enkelbeckasin as well as ducks like Skedand, Kricka, årta and vigg. Also many trädpiplärka, ängspiplärka and svarthakad buskskvätta. brun kärrhök and Varfågel can be found too. The moorland area is good for Trana which are now breeding here again. In the wooded moorland areas you can find various woodpecker species and törnskata and many songbirds.
