Beskrivning
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include knölsvan and sothöna. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by backsvala, and strandskata breeds on the gravelly flat banks. rörsångare, kärrsångare and Sävsparv live in the reed beds, while sydnäktergal and pungmes live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by törnskata, törnsångare and ärtsångare, while tornfalk, sommargylling and pilfink breed in the trees. rapphöna, buskskvätta, tofslärka and stenskvätta live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially tundrasädgås, bläsgås, brunand, vigg and storskrake.
