The Erlensee is part of a larger nature reserve that includes the area surrounding the lake. Due to its natural surroundings, the lake is a popular breeding and resting place for a variety of bird species, especially migratory birds that stop off on their journey.

Lake Erlensee is located directly south of the town of Erlensee. There is a parking lot at the nearby roundabout. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From there you can explore the area on foot. Note that the back part of the lake is not accessible.
