Beskrivning
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (snatterand, gräsand, årta, bläsand, Kricka and so on), gravand and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are grågås and vitkindad gås. Rarer gooses like bläsgås, spetsbergsgås, kanadagås, rödhalsad gås, prutgås, tundrasädgås and tajgasädgås are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are rödbena, större strandpipare, strandskata, ljungpipare, tofsvipa, and brushane. During migration svartsnäppa, skärfläcka, kärrsnäppa, småsnäppa, mosnäppa, kustsnäppa, spovsnäppa, storspov and småspov have been recorded.
