A fantastic parkland with a wide array of birds. Restoration began in 1997 and the species list is at approx 200 species seen in 2023 alone.
Tyto Wetlands is a surprising gem in the town of Ingham. it is full of interconnected lagoons and grasslands all accessible by footpaths. There are several viewing areas providing good views of everything from Crimson Finch and White-gaped Honeyeater to Black-necked Stork and Shining Flycatcher.
Look out for a host of waterbirds on the lagoons with good numbers of both Plumed Whistling-Duck and Wandering Whistling-Duck as well as Green Pygmy-Goose. Skulking in the undergrowth there are glimpses of White-browed Crake, White-browed Robin and both Lovely Fairywren and Red-backed Fairywren.
Travelling on the Bruce Highway you'll find Tyto Wetlands on the south side of Ingham just next to the visitor information centre. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
The site is large and you'll get carried away remember it gets hot, so pack water and a good hat and cover up. How you navigate the site is dependant on time and energy but a lot can be achieved in short amount of time. The circular walk and all paths together as indicated on the map are about 5 km.
