Beskrivning
Rocky Pool is a permanent waterhole on the Gascoyne River 55 kms east of Carnarvon. A suite of water associated birds are often present together with bushbirds in the surrounding River Gum fringing vegetation along the river.
The bed of the Gascoyne either side of the pool is usually either dry or might have a weak surface stream flow. If dry, water might still be seeping slowly along under the sandy surface. Note that the sandy bed is lightly vegetated making this a most attractive walk.
The area along the river is probably the State's most southerly location for Red-browed Pardalote and Black-tailed Treecreeper.

One way of tackling this site is to 'bird' the pool itself and then walk along the river banks (avoiding gullies) and entering/leaving the river bed at convenient slopes along the banks. Note, the walk shown on the map is just a suggestion as there is no visible footpad or track along or beside the river. Use 'satellite view' on the location map for a better perspective on this interesting site.
