Beskrivning

The small urban pond along Gungaderra Creek in Franklin is a haven for birdwatchers, with a surprising variety of bird species calling it home throughout the year. The area’s diverse habitats, from the shallow waters of the pond to the surrounding trees, bushes, and reeds, offer a perfect environment for a wide range of bird species.

Numerous duck species are often sighted, including the Maned Duck, Pacific Black Duck, and Hardhead, while cormorants can be spotted perched nearby, especially the Little Pied Cormorant and the somewhat present Little Black Cormorant. Less frequent waterbird species also make appearances throughout several times of the year including but not limited to the Spotless Crake, Royal Spoonbill, and Great Egret. The area is also known for a healthy population of Australian Reed Warbler and Little Grassbird, which are often heard calling and seen from the dense vegetation around the pond.
