This remote and fairly desolate site is a go-to location for the highly sought after Chestnut-breasted Whiteface.
Other arid-land birds found here include: Pied Honeyeater, Crimson Chat, Chiming Wedgebill, Hooded Robin and Crested Bellbird.

Bon Bon Rest Area is set back from the Stuart Hwy and has a public telephone, toilets, an under cover picnic table, rubbish bins and an emergency supply of water. Overnight camping is permitted.
It is 'embedded' in the boundaries of Bon Bon Station Reserve, a Bush Heritage property being managed for nature conservation - see link.
