Beach and rocky foreshore, tidal natural harbour and river outflow.
On the eastern edge of Carnoustie lies the village of Westhaven. It has a tiny tidal natural harbour, a beach, mudflats, sandblast and a rocky coastline with river outflow. Good for migrants, seabirds, gulls, terns and waders. Crnotrba sprutka, Riđa sprutka and Mala sprutka are regular here. High tide is best avoided (see a link to the tide table below).
The area is year round of interest but best late summer and autumn. Best place in county to see Ružičasta čigra (Aug/Sept) and a good nos for Mali galeb from late summer onwards.
The Westhaven car park is on eastern edge of Carnoustie. Press P on the map for directions. The area is also easily accessible by public transport. The ground is unsuitable for wheelchairs, but the area can be scoped from the car park.
