Swalecliffe is between Whitstable and Herne Bay on the North Kent coast in South East England.
Swalecliffe, Whitstable and Herne Bay are all joined together, making it a long coastal 'strip' of a urban built up area. Swalecliffe - Long Rock is a prime seawatching spot. In the last three years Kratkorepi pomornik, Veliki pomornik, Vitorepi pomornik, Burnica, Lastorepa burnica, Čađavi zovoj, Balearski zovoj and Mala njorka have all been seen in Autumn/Early Winter (Northerly onshore winds are best). The site has a very long list of birds, some of which are Crna njorka, Baršunasti turpan, Riđogrli morski gnjurac, Crnogrli morski gnjurac, Veliki morski gnjurac, Crni turpan, Patka dupljašica, Velika carska šljuka, Velika sprutka, Bela sprutka and Muljača. Be sure to check out the churchyard area and sewage works for Passerines, the more open area and stream can have Sprudnik pijukavac, Grlica, Žuta pliska, Šumska trepteljka and Grmuša čavrljanka, look out for passing raptors such as Ribar, Mali soko, Sivi soko and Eja močvarica, all depending on season of course.
The A299 main road runs just to the South of the site. Traveling from the West (via M2 motorway) leave A299 at sign Blean/Seasalter/Chestfield/Whitstable - Coastal Heritage Town, continue on this road following signs A2990/Herne Bay, eventually follow signs to Tankerton/Chestfield/Swalecliffe/Herne Bay. Continue and then follow signs to Tankerton (B2205)/Swalecliffe, pass under railway line and then turn Left at mini roundabout signed Tankerton/Whitstable (B2205). Turn Right signed (slightly obscured by garden hedge) into Swalecliffe Court Drive/St John Baptist (Church), continue on this road and park on road beside church (DO NOT CAUSE OBSTRUCTION).
