Freshwater lagoon right beside the English Channel. Super range of birds both local and migratory.
Slapton Ley is the largest natural lake in Southwest England. Although it is only separated from the sea by a narrow shingle bar, it is entirely freshwater. The lake is surrounded by reedbeds, marshes and woodland habitats. It's flat with easy access and with many birds to see.
An unexpected bird you can see here is the Crnogrla strnadica. Conservation work carried out by the RSPB has helped this species increase in number and range. You can see Crnogrla strnadica in farms and hedges around Slapton, Torcross and Strete.
Various carparks nearby.
