Ranworth Broad is an excellent, quick and easy site to search for a variety of common wildfowl, plus some of the more iconic species of the Norfolk Broads.
NWT Ranworth Broad is accessible to all and boasts a great visitor centre (which is open in the spring and summer) with wide views over Ranworth Broad. The broad (lake) itself offers chances to see Ćubasti gnjurac, Vodomar and Eja močvarica throughout the year, while the boardwalk trail supports Siva senica, Zimovka and Barski petlovan may also be heard.
In winter, the broad will be busy with feeding wildfowl including Zviždara, Krdža, Plovka kašikara, Šiljkan and a few Ćubasta patka. In periods of harsh weather, Vodeni bik, Morska crnka and other scarcer species may be seen. The alder trees on the trail from the car park may hold good numbers of Čižak and Mala brezova juričica.
In summer, there is a chance of seeing a flyover Ribar, but more likely, there will be plenty of Obična čigra feeding over the broad. Large gatherings of Seoska lasta, Gradska lasta and Bregunica may also be seen. Listen out for the songs of Obični zviždak, Trstenjak rogožar, Trstenjak crvrkutić and even a Obična kukavica along the boardwalk trail.
There is a small car park available on the corner of Farm Lane and The Hill, but a larger one at The Maltsters Pub available if you drop in there for a quick drink or a bite to eat. The broad itself is accessed via the boardwalk trail. Wildlife boat trips are on offer here, so visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust website (see link below) for more details.
