Open-plan wooded area with mostly birch scrub with understory of bracken, rush, grasses and woodspurge.
Moseley Green and Oakenhill Wood is an open-plan wooded area between Parkend and Mallards Pike. In contrast to most of the Forest of Dean, there are few mature trees here. Oakenhill (a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust reserve) and Little Moseley are former heath areas where birch is slowly taking over. Thus adders, Lastavičar, Crnoglava travarka, Šumska šljuka and Leganj are still a possibility in summer. Brezov zviždak, Crnoglava grmuša and Obični zviždak numerous. Large flocks of juvenile Češljugar opposite the Rising Sun pub in late summer.
The area around Parkend church is excellent for winter finches. Look for Batokljun (up to 30 in January) near the tops of the pine trees in the churchyard, and downhill from the car park. Also Krstokljun, Čižak and Severna zeba in smaller numbers. Small areas of wetland attract heron and Mali gnjurac.
Park at Parkend Church (4 miles north of Lydney, follow B4234 or take Dean Forest Railway) or by the Rising Sun pub in Moseley Green. Bicycle hire in Parkend, and elsewhere in the Forest. The circular route on the map is about 5 km.
