Description

Chief habitats in Elan Valley and Gigrin Kites are: streams and open water, frequented by grebes, Vodenkos and Potočna pliska. The ancient sessile oak woodland is home to Obična crvenrepka, Crnovrata muharica, Šumski zviždak, Kratkokljuni puzić, Kobac and open moorland containing Ritska sova, Mali soko, Velika carska šljuka, Zlatni vivak, Crnotrba sprutka, Red Grouse, Obična beloguza, Poljska ševa, Crnoglava travarka Poljska eja and Gavran.

Access

Kite feeding station south of Rhayader feeds daily each afternoon. It has a hide and parking. Reservoirs are west of Rhayader and have several car parks, wetland birds usually at top ends. For a circular drive to see 4 of the 5 reservoirs, keep turning right to follow Elan valley. Claerwen reservoir is a dead end for cars.
