Croft Castle is a National Trust Manor House. 600 hectares parkland with ancient hillfort. Bircher Common is heath, rough grassland and mixed woodland.
Croft Castle and Bircher Common is good for nesting passerines and other woodland birds. Šumski zviždak, Krstokljun, Zimovka, Čižak. Šumska šljuka, Crnoglava travarka, warblers, some wetland birds at Croft which also has fallow deer, bug hotels and native crayfish. At Bircher and the Croft hillfort there are areas of gorse, good for Crnoglava travarka and Konopljarka. Possible Mala šljuka in winter.
On the B4362 between Mortimers Cross and Ludlow. Parking available at both sites. Click on a P in the map to get directions. Access to Bircher Common is up a steep narrow lane with parking on the grass next to the houses. The circular walks shown on the map are each about 5 km.
