National nature reserve on the western escarpment of the Chiltern hills. Good for woodland birds, and raptors soaring in the upcurrents.
Aston Rowant Nature Reserve is an upland area with information boards, viewpoints and marked footpaths. Good for Šumska šljuka, woodpeckers, Siva muharica,, warblers, Riđa lunja, Lastavičar, Kobac, Jastreb, Mišar and Sivi soko.
Equidistant from Oxford, Reading, Aylesbury and Slough. Easy access from junction 5 or 6 of the M40 motorway. Car parks on Beacon Hill and at Cowleaze Wood. Click on a P in the map for directions.
Bus routes 121, 124 and 125 pass through the nearest villages. The Icknield Way long distance path passes nearby. Avoid the Beacon festival, held at midsummer, 21st/22nd June each year.
