One of the most important wetland in Turkey for waterbirds in winter. Every winter, thousands of waterfowl and other birds gather in the lagoon.
If you want to see thousands of Plamenac, Liska, Šiljkan, Zviždara and much more you should visit the Akyatan Lagoon in winter. This is a Ramsar Area of Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean cost. It is largest lagoon in Turkey. It is also important for Ždral in winter. Belogrudi vodomar, Vodomar šarac and Ribar can be seen there. You can find many breeding couples of Zijavac. Kukuvija is also a breeding bird. One of the highligted species is Crni frankolin which well known by locals and bird watchers.
Best way to reach Akyatan Lagoon is by car. There are village roads which you can use to reach the area. Around the lagoon there are unpaved roads that can be slippery and muddy in winter. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
