Description

Utlängan is an island in the Karlskrona archipelago. The island is situated the furthest out to sea of any of the archipelago's islands. Utlängan is approximately 3 km long and 1.5 km across. The island covers just over 215 hectares. 329 bird species have been recorded at Utlängan. Along the coastal meadows and seaweed rich bays waders often rest. Most of them are found in early May and from late July-August. The most common species are: Crvenonogi sprudnik, Crnotrba sprutka andŽalar blatarić. Many rarer species like Crvenovrata liskonoga, Mala šljuka and Pljosnokljuna sprutka are regularly found.

Utlängen is an excellent observation area for migration. Thousands of migrating Belolika guska, Grivasta guska, Crni turpan, Baršunasti turpan, Gavka, Obična čigra, Ždral, Ledenjarka and Velika carska šljuka can be found. The area is one of the best in Sweden when it comes to migrating waterfowl.

The island is a last stopover in Sweden for many migrating passerine birds during migration season. Large amounts of Brezov zviždak (has been seen in the thousands), Čižak (Has been seen in the thousands), Čvorak and Kraljić can often be found. The area is often visited by rare eastern warblers like Palasov zviždak, Šarenokrili azijski zviždak and Pirgasta grmuša. Other rare passerine birds sometimes found are Vuga, Vinogradska strnadica and Vatroglavi kraljić.
