Description

The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.

Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of Ćubasta patka (at most 2000), hundreds of Mali ronac (only numerous during november and december), Patka dupljašica (at most 700), Gluvara (at most 600), and Veliki ronac (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering Suri orao, and Vodomar. Other not yearly winter visitors are Belokrili krstokljun, Borova crvenka during invasions, and Mali gnjurac, Čegrtuša, Planinska juričica, Šiljkan, Srednji ronac, and Polarna juričica during birdrich winters.

Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Few arctic waders are found but Sprudnik pijukavac, Žalar slepić, Crni sprudnik, Sprudnik ubojica, Crvenonogi sprudnik, Barska šljuka, Šumska šljuka, Sprudnik migavac and Krivokljuni sprudnik. Crvenonogi sprudnik, Vivak, and Barska šljuka breed. Velika bela čaplja, Vodomar, and Srednji ronac are common.

Åby strandängar: Reed coated coastal meadows which are flooded during spring floods. They are then usually filled with early waders and ducks. Vodeni bik can be heard singing. All common dabbling ducks are usually found except Grogotovac. Zviždara, Gluvara, and Čegrtuša. On these coastal meadows Velika bela čaplja is often found.

Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. Krdža is numerous, Crni sprudnik, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with Mala šljuka. Velika bela čaplja is often found here. Barska kokica, and Liska breed.

Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with Labud grbac, Veliki labud, Gluvara, Zviždara, Čegrtuša, Krdža, Plovka kašikara, Ćubasta patka, Mali ronac, and Veliki ronac being common and Grogotovac and Šiljkan, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are Liska, Ždral, Siva čaplja. Veliki vranac often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are Mali gnjurac, Barska kokica, Vodeni bik (nearby reed areas), and Velika bela čaplja. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; Velika carska šljuka, Crvenonogi sprudnik, Vivak, Sprudnik ubojica and Sprudnik migavac. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of Lisasta guska, Divlja guska, Guska ljigarica, Kanadska guska, and Belolika guska during good years. often along with smaller amounts of Mali labud (rare), Guska glogovnjača (tundranska), Kratkokljuna guska, and Grivasta guska (rare).

Around these ponds Utina, Mali gnjurac, Barska kokica, Veliki labud, Ćubasti gnjurac, Kanadska guska, Divlja guska, Krdža, Ždral, Vivak, Barska šljuka, Liska, Obični galeb, Crni galeb, Labud grbac, Obična čigra, Fazan, Ćubasta patka, Gluvara, Patka dupljašica, and southern Žuta pliska breed along with more common birds.

During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like Crnotrba sprutka, Riđa sprutka, and Seda sprutka. Modrovoljka, and Strnadica ostrugašica can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
