At the mouth of Motala Ströms in Roxen large coastal meadows and valueable fields can be found. The rapid waters at the mouth keep the water open year round.

Description

At Kungsbro 212 Bird species have been recorded. Kungsbro is a nature reserve next to the lake of Roxen. At the lake 296 bird species have been recorded. During winter large amounts (hundreds if not thousands) of Ćubasta patka, Gluvara, and Patka dupljašica. Among these Mali ronac, Veliki ronac, Labud grbac, Ćubasti gnjurac, Crni galeb, Liska, Veliki labud, Zviždara, and Čegrtuša. In mild winters you can observe hundreds of Divlja guska, and Kanadska guska. Sometimes Čvorak, Lisasta guska, and Vivak also winter in the area. Birds of prey like Mišar, Gaćasti mišar, Vetruška, Belorepan, and Poljska eja can also be seen in the area. And Veliki svračak.

During spring large amounts of geese stay in the hundreds on the fields and meadows. In some years Vivak, Guska ljigarica, and Poljska ševa are found here. Large amounts dabbling ducks, can be found some of whom breed. Many wading birds like Muljača, Velika carska šljuka, Mala carska šljuka, Ostrigar, Crvenonogi sprudnik, Sprudnik migavac, and Sprudnik ubojica use the coastal meadows as feeding grounds. From the observation tower you get a good view of the lake. On the lake you can see hundreds of Obična čigra, Srebrnasti galeb and Sivi galeb. Smaller amounts of Velika čigra, Crna čigra, Mrki galeb and Mali galeb can be found from May-September.

Kungsbro has a small colony of Obični galeb. Waders like Vivak, Ostrigar, Crvenonogi sprudnik, and Barska šljuka. Other breeding birds are: Čegrtuša, Divlja guska, Liska, Krdža, and Ćubasti gnjurac. Among passerine birds Trstenjak crvrkutić, Trstenjak rogožar, Barska strnadica, Žuta pliska and many more breed.

During autumn Livadska trepteljka, Snežna strnadica, Planinska juričica, Riđogrla trepteljka, Golub grivnaš use the fields and coastal meadows as resting ground. Calidris-waders often use the coastal meadows when the water levels at Roxen are low. Among these Crnotrba sprutka, Riđa sprutka, and Seda sprutka are the most common. Mala šljuka can also be found. Velika bela čaplja and Siva čaplja are also often found.

Access

The nature reserve is just outside the towns of Berg and Ljungsbro. The area is close to Linköping. There is a parking spot at the birdwatching tower and south of the river Motala Ström at Sjöliden parking spaces can be found. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.

Note: The coastal meadows are a bird proctection area and the coastal meadows are not allowed to be visited from 1/4-30/6. The birdwatching tower can be visited year round.
