Description
Björns Skärgård is a popular breeding spot for many shore birds. The largest colony of Velika čigra in Sweden can be found here. The best time to visit is during migration in both spring and autumn as many birds pass by the island. Some of these species are otherwise difficult to observe from the mainland as they migrate far out at sea like Riđogrli morski gnjurac, Kratkorepi pomornik, Tankokljuna njorka and Troprsti galeb. Many small birds use the island as a resting place. Interesting findings during migration include Riđogrla trepteljka and Šarenokrili azijski zviždak. During optimal weather conditions large quantities of geese and ducks will come close to the island like Grivasta guska and Šiljkan. The rocky shores provide natural observation platforms all around the island.

Access
Note that this birders paradise is located on an island and is only accessible by boat, and no regular boat traffic goes to or from the island. So having your own boat or knowing someone who owns a boat is useful, see also the information further below. The best place to depart is from Fågelsundet. A small dock where you can leave your boat is present on the island. The island itself can be explored on foot, and toilets as well as sleeping arrangement are provided, the latter comes with a fee and must be booked in advance. Certain parts of the island and the surrounding area are prohibited from entering during spring and summer in order to not distrub any nesting birds.
